Comic about John P
I drew this comic for a french magazine called "Comix Club".  It will appear (in French) in their next issue...

And speaking of John Porcellino, don't miss the debut of his first big book collection,  King-Cat Classix.  It's a must have for any library.

I like how you always grew a beard over time... :)

Beards come and go. Mostly because I don't enjoy shaving. In this comic, the beard represents "acquired wisdom".

Thank you, R2. I've always enjoyed your work in the Star Wars films.

I don't think Joe has put out a comic for a few years. But I see on his web page that he's working on a Christian Sci-Fi novel (!)...

"Silly Daddy" was a pretty amazing comic book. It was unclassifiable.

I loved Silly Daddy. It had that same sort of emotional honesty I enjoyed in King Cat (both of which I discovered through Jeff Levines excellent Destroy All Comics...)

Viva Destroy ALL Comics!

And yeah, emotional honesty in comics is worth more to me than drawing dexterity or fancy paper and printing, and such.

I haven't really read much of John P's Comics, but feel like I should now.

I read this page about Joe C. I have a strong tendency to stay away from this kind of stuff. For some reason, I feel sad when people become "born-again" because it seems to be more a reaction against themselves than a true transformation.

Now is your chance to get caught up on King Cat. I highly recommend it.

I'm sad that Joe basically stopped doing comics once he remarried and became, I gues you'd call it, devout. But I think it was a good thing for him. He used to be such and intense person. He was holding a lot of anger inside him, and was trying to make some kind of a living selling his alternative comics. It was a recipe for disaster, and I think religion may have saved his life, or at least improved the quality of his life. It's really hard to feel intensely serious about making comics and yet not be able to earn a living from them. And Joe was more intense than most.

Hey, that looks good! I know what you mean about having a hard time reading comics with bad pictures, at least initially. I keep spotting comics with amazing covers, but then I open them and think, yikes. I still haven't really got to the stage where I can go back and appreciate them despite the drawings. (Maybe it's because I haven't grown a beard.) Yours is lovely, though. And I like the hand-drawn lines.

It's kind of like not liking certain foods at first, but then you acquire a taste for them.

When I teach comics to high school age students, it's tricky to tell them that drawings are an important part of comics, but great drawings do not always make great comics, and that some of the best cartoonists are not the world's most talents drawers... etc... I want them to work on their drawing abilities, but I don't want them to feel discouraged as cartoonists if their drawing abilities are not fully formed.

Nice work, David. Is that issue of Comix Club devoted to John or is he just cover-featured? That's a pretty good-looking cover..
